Current Volunteer Opportunities

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”

1 Peter 4:10

At Grace Like Rain, there are many different ways we and the participants within our organization serve others. Stewardship and Servanthood are two core values of our organization. Our amazing volunteers and generous community donors embody these and have always been the backbone of our organization. Currently, we are in need of more volunteers than ever. Whatever your gift may be - Financial Coaching or Photography - we need your help. Rather than inundating your social media feed with endless requests, we wanted to tell you all the ways you can sign up to help Grace Like Rain - right now! Here they are all in one place and don’t forget, you can always check our Volunteer Page for up to date information about all the ways you can volunteer with Grace Like Rain. If you are a new volunteer, please go fill out our volunteer form before contacting to get involved.

Photographers

We are looking for some local photographers willing to do a photo shoot of our Grace Like Rain families before Christmas time! These photos are amazing both for the families to keep, and for Grace Like Rain to use. We LOVE gifting these photos to our families as a special memory for their season of life. If you are interested in helping in this way, please reach out to Kody Jones at kjones@glrtx.org.

Phone Call Volunteers

We are in need of a volunteer (or 2) to call a list of individuals and review a document with them. The need for this volunteer is IMMEDIATE. If this is something that you are interested in please contact Megan Elmore at melmore@glrtx.org.

Financial Coaches

A Financial Coach engages with our Grace Like Rain families in the Faith and Finances Program. Faith and Finances is a 12-week program developed by the Chalmers Center where our families receive practical financial tools grounded in biblical principles. Each coach will attend a training prgram before teaching Faith and Finances, and commit to attending one of the two Faith and Finances classes offered every Tuesday night for 12 weeks. These classes are held at the Serve Denton building. Attending these classes with your GLR family will make you aware of what your family is learning so that you can encourage them and hold them accountable to meeting their financial goals. As a financial coach in this program, you will communicate during the 12 weeks with the family’s case manager and coach who are all part of the family’s Community Care Team. The financial coach position can be a stand-alone volunteer opportunity or can be an additional way for an existing family coach to interact meaningfully with their family on a weekly basis for the 12 weeks. If you are interested in this position, please contact Felicia Smith at fsmith@glrtx.org.

Family Coaches

We are in need of volunteers who are willing to serve our families and have a desire to share God’s continual grace and love. They will encourage, motivate, and walk alongside our families helping them to accomplish the goals laid out by the caseworker. Training and support groups will be provided, along with one-on-one mentoring from the coordinator. This is typically a 1-2 year commitment where you will communicate with your family on a weekly basis. The communication may be in person or over the phone, and varies in amount from 1-4 hours per week, depending on the needs of your family as well as your availability.

Car Maintenance 101

Transportation is an important barrier that Grace Like Rain addresses in our holistic case management program for families. Many of our families do not have licenses or vehicles to drive to work. Once they do reach this step, Grace Like Rain wants to make sure they are fully equipped to feel empowered to maintain and operate their car! On November 7 from noon to 3:00 PM. For this reason, we are looking for 2-3 volunteers to help serve lunch. To sign up, please contact Felicia Smith at fsmith@glrtx.org.

Move-In Volunteers

If you are interested in volunteering with move-ins we have the following areas that are needed:

  • Lifting/moving: We are looking for anyone who can lift boxes, beds, couches, and other heavy items into homes for our families. If you have a truck we can use -  that is a bonus!
  • Home Organizer: Often our families are mothers with young children and it is difficult for them to set up or organize their home with all of the young ones! We like to lend a helping hand in such cases, so if you love to organize then this is the PERFECT way for you to get involved.

To volunteer, please fill out our volunteer form. If you have already done this, please contact our Shelly Cullum at cullumkids@aol.com.

Driving Instructor

If you have had your driver’s license for more than three years, you can help one of our mothers get hers! We need a volunteer to help this mom learn to drive, as she already has her permit but just needs an instructor. Please email melmore@glrtx.org if you are interested.

If you are interested in any of these items, Grace Like Rain would really appreciate your service! Remember to always check our volunteer page, where we continually post our current needs, and outline all of the ways you can get involved.

Car Maintenance 101 - Instructors

Transportation is an important barrier that Grace Like Rain addresses in our holistic case management program for families. Many of our families do not have licenses or vehicles to drive to work. Once they do reach this step, Grace Like Rain wants to make sure they are fully equipped to feel empowered to maintain and operate their car! For this reason, we are looking for instructors to teach individuals how to care for their car. Topics such as changing a flat tire, checking your oil, checking your battery charge, knowing when to take your car in, and more, will help these families feel prepared to handle this new resource. We are planning to host this class on a Saturday in November, so if you are a car guru, come share your best tips and tricks! To sign up, please contact Felicia Smith at fsmith@glrtx.org.
