Street Outreach

Our Street Outreach team meets clients at their point of need in places not meant for human habitation, such as encampments, abandoned buildings, vehicles, and parking lots.

Our Outreach Process

  • Identify

First, we identify persons experiencing homelessness, searching for those unsheltered - whether literal or chronic, individuals or families.

  • Locate

Second, we locate individuals by searching encampments, abandoned buildings, parking lots, streets, bridges, and more places in Denton County

  • Assess

Next, we assess the barriers to shelter, such as lack of ID or documentation, loss of income, substance misuse, or mental health struggles.

  • Refer

Lastly, we refer individuals to our network of community resources, which help provide shelter, food, clothing, medical services, and job opportunities.

Our Approach

In the Streets

In 2016, Giving Hope (GH) collaborated with Denton's Police Department about connecting with GH’s Street Outreach team and broadening the area of accessibility. Our team travels into encampments, abandoned buildings, under bridges, parking lots, and streets regularly to build relationships with clients living in these areas. We work to break the cycle of homelessness addressing barriers and connect clients to the resources needed.  Therefore, the clients do not have to come to us, but we have a way to reach them and consistently work on building the relationship that is needed to transition from homelessness to housing, one life at a time.
