Our Stories Matter: Layla

Hour after hour, Layla* called shelters to see if there was space for her and her toddler to stay.

Call after call, she was receiving the same message — “Sorry, we are full.”

This is a common reality for clients who are in desperate situations.

She had feared for her safety in light of the domestic violence in her home and was forced to leave, or be subjected to further abuse and endangerment of her child.

Giving Grace was able to offer safety and hope to her.

Our case managers worked to provide her with confidential and individualized care that allowed her to obtain temporary emergency shelter. She was also able to seek out counseling and employment through community resource referrals given by her case manager.

We are so encouraged to be able to meet people where they are at and offer support and resources, which ultimately lead to hope for the future.

While temporary emergency shelter is a vital pathway away from homelessness, there is a desperate need for long term shelter for these families when their temporary shelter time is expended.

Layla is a perfect candidate for our signature Rise With Grace program where she will be equipped with housing, case management, life skills courses, childcare assistance, and job readiness skills to move her closer to independent living.
